How it all began.

From the twine specialist in 1914 to today's adhesive tape expert with an international focus.

Founding of bindfadenhaus en gros gustav scharnau gmbh in 1914

In 1914, Gustav Scharnau founded Bindfadenhaus en gros Gustav Scharnau GmbH in Berlin for his daughter Erna. As a trading house for high-quality hemp twine, sausage and binding yarn, and packaging materials, the company increasingly established itself as a specialist in Berlin.

Erna Scharnau, who ran the company, married shoe manufacturer Ferdinand Schach. In the post-World War II years, her son, Horst Schach, took over management.

After the property at Cottastraße 2, Berlin, was expropriated, a new home was found at Brunnenstraße 60, in the western part of the city.

During the construction of the Berlin Wall and the extensive renovation of the buildings, the Bindfadenhaus had to find a new location. It found one in Berlin-Charlottenburg.

1961 - 1989

Due to the division of Berlin, the most important target group, agriculture, disappeared and regular customers were lost.

With the increasing number of parcels being shipped from West to East, string assumed an important role in stationery stores, and adhesive tape took over in industry. Managing Director Horst Schach recognized this and increasingly focused his business on this. Subsequently, the company moved from Berlin's Charlottenburg district to Kreuzberg. The beginning of the wild 1980s.

1989 to today

In 1989, Matthias Schach, the fourth generation of the family, took over his father Horst Schach's company. The fall of the Berlin Wall opened the opportunity to invest in the Berlin area. In 1994, the company's new location in Werneuchen was completed. The manufacturing of self-adhesive products (adhesive tapes) replaced the trade in string and packaging materials. What was originally a trading company became a processing business. In the following years, the automotive industry became the most important customer of the adhesive tape parts produced at the site. We were one of the first adhesive tape converters to be certified according to IATF 16949.

Today we produce on 5,000 m².
